In every community, there are residents in need of basic services that many of us often take for granted. It can be access to healthy meals, a safe, clean place to live, good schools, medical care or an expert to help us with financial decisions. Fortunately, in Austin – Foundation Communities provides all of these valuable services and Moonshine Sweet Tea is proud to support their efforts.
“It might be a matter of providing safe, affordable housing for a veteran returning to civilian life after serving our nation,” said Moonshine Sweet Tea CEO Remmy Castillo. “Or it might be a single mom who’s trying to learn new skills so she can compete in the ever-changing job market. Foundation Communities offers an innovative, proven model that empowers its residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles.
Seriously injured in a work-related accident, Allen found himself permanently disabled, unable to work, depressed and living alone in a shack. Now he lives in Capital Studios, one of the 22 housing communities Foundation Communities owns and operates in Austin and North Texas. “This place has been the answer to my prayers,” said Allen. “I now wake up each day with real purpose and joy.”
Allen’s is just one person whose life has been positively transformed thanks to Foundation Communities. Consider this:
- 1,000 kids attend free after-school programs at FC communities each year resulting in better grades. Adult literacy, Life Skills, and college prep courses are also offered.
- 20,000 clients each year receive free assistance completing tax returns putting $35 million back into their pockets and into our community. Financial coaching, money management, and home-buying guidance are also provided.
- 5,000 people received assistance signing up for health insurance
- 1,000 students received help applying for financial aid and scholarships
