“Helping Children’s Charities” is not just a slogan slapped on bottles of Moonshine Sweet Tea; it represents a commitment by our employees to help improve the lives of others. And that’s exactly what happened in 2017! Moonshine Sweet Tea presented a $250,000 check to Make A Wish to kick-off its national sponsorship of the organization which grants wishes to children facing serious medical challenges. In June, two of our employees were among the brave souls to scale the side of an Austin high-rise building to go Over the Edge – MAW’s annual fundraiser! Moonshine Sweet Tea also donated $25,000 to Dell Children’s Medical Center with the request that the funds be earmarked to meet the needs of young patients of its Children’s Blood and Cancer Center. The St. Baldrick’s Fair and Mardi Gras were among the fun activities that MST sponsored for young cancer patients.
But Moonshine Sweet Tea does much more than write checks. It also provides in-kind donations to various non-profit organizations. In 2017, the company donated $73,000 worth of product to more than 50 charities. The requests varied in size: a Girl Scout Troop asked for 3 cases for an Easter party it was hosting for young cancer patients; the Salvation Army requested 165 cases for its annual Rock the Red Kettle Golf Tournament and Concert benefitting Hurricane Harvey relief and rebuilding efforts in Texas. In all, nearly 5,000 cases of tea were donated for community events and fundraising opportunities.
The donation of in-kind product ramped-up at the end of August right after Hurricane Harvey slammed into communities along the Gulf Coast. Moonshine Sweet Tea donated $20,000 worth of product to quench the thirsts of First Responders and volunteers in communities hit hardest by the storm. The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross received product along with chefs and cooks who banded together to provide meals and refreshments for legions of helping hands.
Although it’s a small company, Moonshine Sweet Tea employees are enthusiastic, hard workers who are willing to roll up their sleeves to assist others. In addition to delivering tea to non-profit organizations, our team members also helped build an Austin Habitat for Humanity Unity Build house. The work on the house started in the summer and the new home was completed in November. Team members also stepped up to help pack and ship more than a hundred comfort kits for children of military parents through the Comfort Crew non-profit organization. The entire team is excited about the charity partnership it’s kicking off with Comfort Crew in 2018 since we know taking care of military families is an honorable cause.
Our customers are excited to know that every bottle purchased helps Moonshine Sweet Tea extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need. Moonshine Sweet Tea salutes the various non-profits, the volunteers and MST employees who work hard to improve the quality of life for others. Thanks to everyone – 2018 promises to be the best year yet for Moonshine Sweet Tea!
